Melanie Comer


Melanie has over 30 years' social housing experience, specialising in property charging work to secure housing finance transactions, for which she is recognised in both Chambers and Legal 500. 

She is joint lead of our national real estate finance security team, part of the largest specialist housing finance team in the UK and ranked for social housing finance by Chambers UK and Legal 500.

Melanie acts for a wide range of borrowers in the affordable housing sector across England and Wales, both large and small, in the charging and refinancing of property portfolios for bonds and private placements as well as traditional bank lending. Melanie's team also carry out large scale property due diligence exercises associated with mergers and restructurings and in preparation for asset registers and property portfolio transactions.

She advises on strategy for funding and property security, considering such issues as timescales, maximising value and reducing extent of overall due diligence and costs. She regularly provides training and has considerable experience advising RPs on developments in order to increase future borrowing potential. Her team also carry out development finance transactions and wider real estate finance work, including charging of commercial properties and securing pension liabilities.
