International law firm Trowers & Hamlins has strengthened its Malaysia and wider ASEAN practice with the relocation of Partner Tom Reynolds to its office in Kuala Lumpur.
Tom, who is a Partner in the firm's Corporate Team and has been at the firm for 17 years, has relocated to our Kuala Lumpur office to focus on supporting clients across Malaysia, the wider ASEAN region and bridging the firm's key international investment corridors including the UK and the GCC. The move reinforces the firm's commitment to one of its key international growth markets and supports the increased demand for cross border investment and fund-raising advice.
Having previously spent five years in the firm's Kuala Lumpur office and seven years in the GCC earlier in his career, Tom brings extensive experience advising on international transactions spanning Southeast Asia, the UK, the GCC, the US and Europe. His practice focuses on both conventional and Shari'ah compliant cross-border M&A, funds, equity capital markets, and joint ventures, helping clients navigate investments across multiple jurisdictions and industries.
Beyond his client work, Tom has built a strong profile within the Malaysia-UK business community. He has sat on the Executive Committee of the British Malaysian Society, leads the firm's engagement with the UK-ASEAN Business Council, and supports greater connectivity between Malaysia and the UK, and the growth of newer markets in Southeast Asia, working closely with industry stakeholders to contribute to regional initiatives.
Tom commented:
"Malaysia has been a hugely important part of my professional and personal journey and I am delighted to be returning to Kuala Lumpur. Having spent significant parts of my career living and working in Malaysia, the UK and the GCC, I understand the importance of the relationship between these markets, the nuances of transacting cross-border, and the opportunities that continue to emerge across ASEAN and our wider Asia, GCC and UK markets.
We have a truly fantastic team in Malaysia that I am thrilled to be part of again. We have witnessed significant growth in our client base and team in Malaysia, and being based in Malaysia will allow me to be closer to important clients of the firm while continuing to support international investment flowing between ASEAN, the UK, the GCC and other international markets. There is significant momentum across core sectors for me and the firm including private equity, private credit, real estate, venture capital, infrastructure, energy, asset management, and banking and financial services, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead for both our clients and the firm, and the ability to play a part in that."
Jeremy Ingham, Head of International at Trowers said:
"Having worked extensively across the UK, Malaysia and the GCC, Tom's move strengthens our ability to support clients seeking opportunities across a number of key growth areas within our international markets. These are markets where Tom has developed a strong profile and network over many years and which are central to our 2030 growth strategy."
Tom will be based in Malaysia working closely alongside partners Nick Edmondes, Geoff Allen and Nicol Ong, and will work strategically in growing our business in the ASEAN region with our Singapore team led by Abdulhaq Mohammed alongside partners Cassandra Lim and Tan Chuan How.
