How can we help you?

International law firm Trowers & Hamlins has been recognised in the Debt Market Deal of the Year category at the Asian Legal Business India Law Awards 2025.

The ALB India Law Awards, now in its 7th year, recognise the exceptional performance of private practitioners and in-house counsel in India and for India-focussed deals. The winners are based on extensive research by ALB and decision of the jury comprising of distinguished legal practitioners, general counsels and government officials.

The accolade was for the firm's involvement in advising a syndicate of leading Indian banks on financing to Data Infrastructure Trust, an infrastructure investment trust sponsored and managed by Brookfield Asset Management. The acquisition was particularly rare in the Indian market, both for its size, complexity and structure, as Data Infrastructure Trust raised the entire acquisition debt and refinancing debt solely in INR.

Debopam Dutta, Head – India Desk, commented:

"Over the past couple of years, we have been fortunate to have worked on some significant transactions relating to India, demonstrating our ability to navigate complex legal issues and structures around deals in India and deliver successful results for our clients. I am incredibly proud of this achievement, that too at the early stages of our India practice. We are committed to continuing to be trusted adviser to our clients, and sincerely thank them for all the trust which has been crucial to our success. A big shout out to ALB and the esteemed jury for this recognition."

Sara Bailey, Senior Partner at Trowers & Hamlins, added:

"Congratulations to Debo, the deal team and our India Desk team on this tremendous recognition. Since its inception in 2023, our India Desk has been focused on supporting our clients' inbound and outbound needs relating to India as a geography and we remain committed to delivering outstanding legal support on complex India-related cross-border transactions in the years to come. I am delighted to see our India Desk led by Debo going from strength-to-strength and taking the right strides to cementing our position at the at the forefront of dealmaking in India."

This latest recognition follows on from other recent successes for the India Desk, including having two India-related deals feature on India Business Law Journal's 2024 list of the top 50 deals of the year, being named as one of the top foreign firms for India-related practice in 2024 and Debo being listed on India Business Law Journal's A-List for 2025.
