International law firm Trowers & Hamlins has advised Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) on the redevelopment of Sitra Mall, a key shopping destination in Bahrain.

The phased redevelopment will be undertaken while the mall remains operational, and will see extensive updates to the mall's entrances, common areas, food courts, toilets and other facilities, as well as the enhancement of the mall’s electrical systems, external façade, and road network in a move that will turn the mall into a premier shopping and lifestyle destination. The Sitra Mall renovation project is in line with BDB’s strategy to provide ongoing support toward the Kingdom’s private sector. This project aims to support the SME ecosystem in Bahrain in line with the Economic Vision of 2030.

Trowers advised on the construction contract for the entire redevelopment. The Trowers team was led by partner Hasan Rahman.

Hasan commented:

"We are pleased to have advised BDB on a project that will bring considerable benefits to a number of key stakeholders. The redevelopment will not only bring a heightened shopping experience for local consumers, but it also supports Bahrain's Economic Vision of 2030. This deal is a great reflection of our growing presence and reputation in Bahrain's construction sector, and reinforces our commitment to the Bahrain market."

Nareen Agha, Vice President – Head of Legal & Board Secretary at Bahrain Development Bank, added:

"We would like to thank Trowers & Hamlins for their expert legal advice and strategic guidance throughout the process and for effectively accommodating the key requirements of the numerous stakeholders involved in this complex project. We are now in a strong position to focus on carrying out this exciting redevelopment and creating a flagship retail destination in Bahrain."
