APLMA releases discussion draft of Malaysian-law-governed, template Shariah-compliant facilities agreement

The Asia Pacific Loan Market Association (APLMA) has recently released its much-anticipated new Malaysian-law-governed Shariah-compliant General Facilities Agreement template, as a Discussion Draft. The template was prepared following extensive input from a team of banks, financial institutions and other stakeholders in Malaysia, including Trowers & Hamlins’ Kuala Lumpur based team, and was coordinated by local Malaysian law firm, Rahmat Lim & Partners.

Banking and Finance Partner Elias Moubarak commented:

"Trowers & Hamlins is proud to be part of the APLMA working group contributing to the new template document which, it is hoped, will soon be adopted by institutions across Malaysia and help create a standardised model for Shariah-compliant financings."

If you would like further information on this template document please visit the APLMA website or contact Elias Moubarak at emoubarak@trowers.com, or another member of the International banking and finance team based in Kuala Lumpur.
