International law firm, Trowers & Hamlins, has published its fourth annual Responsible Business Report.
The 2025 report marks four years since the firm launched its responsible business strategy and reflects how this work has evolved from early ambition to tangible, measurable progress.
The latest report outlines progress and new initiatives across five key areas: strategy, inclusion, environment, community, and client collaboration. It demonstrates how responsible business continues to be embedded in every aspect of the firm’s operations.
Highlights from the past year include:
- Over 12,000 responsible business hours and more than 700 pro bono hours delivered
- Launch of a Solicitor Apprenticeship programme to support social mobility
- Expansion of the 10,000 Black Interns Programme across all UK offices
- Introduction of a salary sacrifice scheme for electric vehicles across UK offices
- Publication of the firm’s first Carbon Reduction Plan and investment in specialist software to improve emissions tracking
Our responsible business strategy is also embedded in the way we deliver legal services for our clients. This year, we’ve supported a range of transformative client projects, including advising Birmingham City Council on the regeneration of Druids Heath to deliver 3,500 new homes, over half of which will be affordable. We provided legal counsel on a $450 million ESG financing facility for Bahrain Steel and helped The Housing Finance Corporation launch a £150 million facility to fund decarbonisation in social housing. Our work also includes ESG reporting frameworks in Oman, green retrofit financing for Peabody Trust, and guidance on the £1.29bn Warm Homes Fund.
Commenting on the launch of the report, Senior Partner Sara Bailey said:
"When we first launched our responsible business strategy, we knew this would be a long-term commitment that would evolve as we learned and grew. Four years on, it is inspiring to see how deeply responsible business is now embedded in the way we work, and how central it has become in ensuring we are on the right trajectory towards our 2030 strategy and vision.
Across the firm, our people are driving change, championing initiatives, and finding new ways to make a positive impact. From building a more inclusive organisation to reducing our environmental footprint, these efforts show what is possible when we work collectively towards shared goals.
We are proud of the progress we have made so far, and we remain focused on creating a fairer, more sustainable and inclusive future for our people, our clients and our communities."
