The Social Security Benefits Up-rating Order 2023 increased the rate of statutory sick pay from 6 April 2023 (from £99.35 to £109.40) and statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental and parental bereavement pay increased from 2 April (from £156.66 to £172.48).
The hourly rates of the NMW and the National Living Wage (NLW) are amended as follows:
- The NLW for workers aged 23 and over increases from £9.50 to £10.42 per hour
- The NMW for 21 to 22 year olds increases from £9.18 to £10.18 per hour.
- The NMW for 18 to 20 year olds increases from £6.83 to £7.49 per hour.
- The NMW for 16 to 17 year olds increases from £4.81 to £5.28 per hour.
- The apprentice rate increase from £4.81 to £5.28 per hour.
- The accommodation offset rate increases from £8.70 to £9.10.
Finally, the Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2023 has been published and sets out the annual increase in tribunal limits. Where there is a claim for unfair dismissal, the new figures will apply where the effective date of termination falls on or after 6 April 2023.
- The compensatory award for unfair dismissal will rise from £93,878 to £105,707.
- A week's pay for basic award and redundancy payments will rise from £571 to £643.
