Webinar: Private residential development briefing – Building safety: Latest update

MHCLG's draft Building Safety Bill has been published for some months now. Based on Dame Judith Hackitt's report, "Building a Safer Future", her clarion call to the sector demanding that it starts implementing her recommendations for building safety ahead of legislation has galvanised many developers and landlords to audit and re-orientate their procedures and supply-chains to meet the forthcoming building safety requirements.

Our speakers provided an update on the latest developments in building safety, based on their experiences as members of the Industry Safety Steering Group (ISSG) with Dame Judith Hackitt and MHCLG's Procurement Advisory Group: currently responsible for compiling guidance for public sector developers and landlords in relation to the design, construction and operation of higher-risk buildings.

We also provided insight on the commercial and risk management challenges faced in implementing the proposed legislation across a complex asset management and development portfolio.

Our key speakers included:

  • Paul Nash, past president of CIOB and member of the Industry Safety Steering Group for Building Safety (ISSG)
  • Al Beevers, Head of Health & Safety at Argent and member of the British Property Federation Building Safety Sounding Board
