Keeping the farm in the family: Planning ahead of the 2026 changes
This event is hosted by Amber River and is designed to help farming families and landowners prepare for Inheritance Tax (IHT) changes coming in 2026. Trowers are collaborating with Amber River for this event as guest speakers, joined by other professionals in the field who will be sharing their expertise and advice on this topic.
From April 2026, new IHT rules will significantly affect how family farms are passed on. Until now, Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) have minimised tax burdens when transferring farms between generations. However, under the reforms announced in the 2024 Autumn Budget, relief will be capped at £1m per person. Anything above this will only receive partial relief. This shift could mean sizeable tax bills for many famers, sometimes forcing difficult decisions about selling land or assets.
This session will break down what the changes mean for you and your family. Covering financial and legal implications and sharing practical planning strategies to help safeguard your farm for the next generation.
