Careers at Trowers & Hamlins

Trowers & Hamlins is an international law firm with over 170 partners and more than 1000 people located across the UK, Middle East and Asia.

During our long history, we have held fast to the values and characteristics – such as service, quality, integrity and innovation – that have made us not only a leading law firm, but an inclusive and exciting place to work and establish a career. Some 240 years on, these attributes remain solidly embedded in our culture and our ways of working.

We run a well-regarded graduate recruitment programme each year, as well as apprenticeship schemes for business support professionals and a structured career pathway for paralegals. Additionally, we’re always on the lookout for experienced lawyers and business support professionals at every level to share in our high-achieving, friendly, positive culture.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

We’ve always been proud of our natural commitment to diversity and inclusion – Trowers Includes formalises and focuses this into a powerful initiative at the heart of our firm.

Remaining attractive to our clients and to the talent we rely on to serve them is a priority for any law firm. At Trowers it’s a way of life. Beyond hierarchy and co-designed by every member of our firm, Trowers Includes is a powerful thread that runs through life at Trowers.

With over 40% of Trowers partners female, 13.8% British black, Asian and minority ethnic and 7.3% from the LGBTQ+ community, we’re aware that there’s more work to be done but are proud of the great strides forward we’ve made and the impact this is having.

Our core target areas:

We know that individuals from the Black ethnic group are underrepresented at senior levels within our business and recognise that if we want to see more Black colleagues in senior positions, we need to look at our talent pipeline:

Targets

  • Increase representation of Black fee-earners across our UK offices from 3% to no less than 6% by 2026.
  • Increase representation of Black colleagues in business services roles across our UK offices from 5% to no less than 7% by 2026.

10,000 Black Interns

Trowers have committed to supporting the 10,000 Black Interns Foundation, through offering fifteen internships across our UK offices from June 2025.

Eight legal and seven business services interns will join the firm for six weeks.

The Legal interns will rotate between three departments, spending two weeks in each. They will also attend a variety of talks, skills workshops and sessions with different departments in order to build their knowledge and understanding of how Legal Private Practice works and build the skills required to succeed.

The legal interns will also be assessed for a training contract via and feedback from the teams they sit in. Finally, as part of our involvement in the 'Collaboration Network' with other intern-employing law firms, they will benefit from talks and events run by other firms. We are also running a session for these other firms' interns
