Tom Reynolds, Partner at international law firm Trowers & Hamlins has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the British Malaysian Society, a role which focuses on greater connectivity between Malaysia and the UK.
The British Malaysian Society seeks to nurture and maintain an array of contacts and valuable friendships that have been forged between British and Malaysian businesses and individuals, including for individuals whilst living and doing business in both countries. The Society strives to contribute to the growth of international investment, trade, cultural, education and other links between the UK and Malaysia. The trade and investment links of the Society with the UK and Malaysia bolster strategic initiatives being pursued in the two countries adding value for clients and stakeholders in both markets.
Tom's appointment compliments Trowers growth strategy and expansion across both and other key strategic markets in Asia for the firm. The firm was the first international law firm to obtain a licence in Malaysia and has a strong profile in Malaysia-UK cross border investments, financings and projects.
Tom commented on his appointment:
"I am excited to join the Executive Committee having been involved in cross-border trade and investment activity between Malaysia and the UK for many years. I started attending the Society's inspiring events on my return to the UK from Malaysia in 2022 and I was immediately struck by the warmth, inclusivity, connectivity and energy of the organisation and its members.
Alongside the trade and investment opportunities that the Society presents for the organisations I work with, I'm particularly excited about the opportunities it brings in the education sector, especially to support Malaysian students coming to study at British universities, through the Society's fantastic mentoring programme. Understanding cultural nuances and how business is conducted in different markets is vital for anyone looking to study and build a career in a different country to their home country, and I'm proud to be able to contribute to that and indeed learn from Malaysian students about cultural norms in, and both similarities and differences for the UK with, Malaysia."
