How can we help you?

Trowers & Hamlins has further strengthened its private equity offering, with the appointment of two new partners into the firm's UK Corporate practice. Long standing colleagues, Mark Metcalfe and Sarah Souter, both formerly partners at law firm Gateley Legal, have joined Trowers as the firm moves to further consolidate its position as the go-to legal provider in the lower and mid-market Private Equity space.

The firm's Private Equity team is one of the fastest growing in the sector and represents a key strategic growth area for the firm. The Corporate team has been consistently ranked by Legal 500 as one of the leading firms for lower to mid-market mergers and acquisitions, having achieved a Tier 1 ranking for five consecutive years.

Mark Metcalfe was made Partner at Gateley in 2019, having joined the firm three years previously. Mark is an experienced corporate lawyer specialising in all aspects of the private equity life cycle and mergers and acquisitions. He regularly advises private equity funds, portfolio companies, management teams and founders and his work with private equity extends across the full range of support required to take ambitious, fast-growing businesses, through primary, secondary and tertiary private equity processes.

Sarah Souter also joined Gateley in 2016 and was made Partner in 2021. Sarah also specialises in private equity and mergers and acquisitions, routinely advising private equity funds, management teams and investee companies in the lower and mid-market private equity space in all aspects of an investment life cycle. Sarah's private equity credentials further extends Trowers' private equity offering by advising on earlier-stage investments. She acts for both the investors' venture capital trusts as well as the investee companies on the initial investments as well as follow on rounds and restructuring.

Tim Nye, Partner and Head of Corporate at Trowers, commented:

"Sarah and Mark bring with them excellent experience and deep market knowledge and understanding of the private equity space. They are a very welcome addition to our team. Trowers' corporate practice has been recognised for a number of years for its first-class counsel and I am delighted that Mark and Sarah are joining us as we continue to invest in the key area of lower and mid-market private equity."

He added, "Trowers is committed to further expanding and deepening its presence in private equity. These appointments are just the first move in our ambitious plans to significantly grow the firm's offering in the PE market."
