Trowers advises on the sale of The Mere Golf Resort & Spa

Top 40 law firm Trowers & Hamlins has acted on the sale of the company that owns The Mere Golf Resort & Spa on behalf of a UAE investor.

The 157-acre site in Knutsford, Cheshire offers 81 guest bedrooms, 18-hole championship golf course, an AA Rosette-awarded restaurant and an award-winning spa and health club.

The hotel also has the benefit of an existing planning consent with the opportunity to further expand and enhance the resort including increasing the number of bedrooms to 140 and expanding the events capacity from 550 persons to 950.

Trowers advised on all aspects of the deal including corporate, real estate, financing and tax.

Select Group, the new owners, intends to invest in the facilities, with plans to refurbish the interior and exterior parts of the hotel and upgrade the rooms and public spaces.

Partner Ayda Habboush, commented:

"We are pleased to have successfully advised on the sale of the historic Mere Golf Resort & Spa. The hotel sector is continuing its revival post-pandemic and it is encouraging to see that there is strong appetite from investors. We look forward to seeing The Mere Golf Resort & Spa continue to grow and further establish itself as one of the leading luxury hotels in the North West."
