Webinar: Excellence in charity governance – Should charities pay their trustees?
Campbell Tickell and Trowers & Hamlins are pleased to invite you to a joint event looking at excellence in charity governance. This is the fourth event in the series.
The excellence in charity governance series is intended to act as a facilitated discussion for Company Secretaries and Heads of Governance within the charitable sector, to share current thinking and to provide a safe space for discussing common challenges with like-minded peers.
The topics and format of the sessions are shaped by your feedback. The topic for the next event will be:
Should charities pay their trustees?
The topic of pay is a divisive issue within the charity sector. Some believe that money spent on staff and trustees is money diverted away from a charity's core purpose. Others believe that for charities to attract the right mix of talent they must compete with other more commercial businesses.
In this session we will look at the legal framework surrounding payment of trustees and consider what is possible. We will debate the merits of trustee payment within the charity sector and share experiences and views of those attending. We will hear about the housing sector perspective and the advantages and disadvantages of payment there where payment is more common. We will also hear from a registered charity about the process that they went through before deciding that they would look to pay trustees, then about the process of engaging with the Charity Commission and then about what the impact has been. Join us for what promises to be an interesting discussion!
Who should attend?
The webinar is free to attend and aimed at Company Secretaries, Heads of Governance and anyone responsible for supporting governance in charities.
Our speakers are:
