The local authorities' General Power has increased the scope for our council clients to engage in commercial activity beyond "mere trading" which was introduce in the Local Government Act 2003.

Our team not only provide legal advice to our public sector clients but provide pragmatic support in ensuring business cases are compliant, consideration of alternative models such as employee led mutuals, use of prudential borrowing, State Aid compliant financing of activities and where necessary securing investment and joint ventures with private sector organisations.

We also provide support for publically sponsored new businesses including training for board members and assistance with the commercial arrangements any new business has to deal with.
