Health & Social Care

Our specialist cross-sector health and social care team has the depth of experience, the energy and the commitment to deliver a first-class legal service

The health and social care sector is highly specialised, closely regulated, politically sensitive and socially emotive and faces significant challenges to address growing demand from an ageing population, social expectations for older and disabled people and for the meeting of health needs generally. Ever-increasing challenges around public funding mean this is no easy task.

The sector continues to evolve new models for the delivery of key projects. It is now 20 years since the first Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospital was announced and almost 15 years since the market based reform of the NHS paved the way for greater independent sector involvement in the delivery of NHS services. Partnerships between independent sector providers and the NHS are now relatively common and more are expected to emerge as the NHS progresses with the Five Year Forward View.  The NHS is currently in the midst of a major transformation; the creation of Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs), Accountable Care Systems (ACSs) and Accountable Care Organisations (ACOs) is set to radically change the way services are commissioned, funded and delivered.

Understanding the direction of travel in the sector takes an understanding of all of the constituent parts making it up and the ability to converse with them.  We are very strongly connected with each of these parts and meet their representatives regularly to discuss strategy and delivery.  We use our unique cross-sector client and contact base to drive new conversations and new thinking, joining up organisations and people with ideas that can create change.  Our aim is not just to participate in the market but to play our part in shaping it, using our wide-ranging connections in the sector, and the ideas we see from our work outside of it, to bring people and new thinking together.
