Waste to Energy

Our award-winning Energy and Infrastructure team is a market leader in assisting clients to deliver and finance large-scale projects across the Middle East

We act for major private sector waste contractors, waste disposal and collection authorities, funders and bid sponsors, both in the UK and internationally.

We have extensive experience of acting for clients at all levels of a project structure whether on PFI/PPP projects or merchant schemes. We have advised on the delivery of new infrastructure (in particular Energy from Waste, Advanced Thermal Treatment, Combined Heat and Power, Mechanical Treatment, MBT, Anaerobic Digestion and IVC facilities), merchant contracts for waste treatment capacity and a wide range of waste management services contracts including municipal waste collection, civic amenity site operation, MRFs and composting services.

We advise on the legal, regulatory and environmental frameworks surrounding such projects, including concession terms and offtake arrangements (power and heat and related government incentives/embedded benefits). Our advice covers all aspects of the project process – from inception to operation/service delivery. This includes public sector procurement and evaluation processes, negotiating the project agreement, drafting, reviewing and negotiating works and operations subcontracts (including engineering and construction contracts), advising on corporate and project finance solutions, risk allocation generally and potential liabilities arising out of contaminated land and remediation.
