International arbitration

Unfortunately disputes occur in all businesses. When they do we can provide you with clear advice on where you stand and what remedies are available to you

We believe that the focus of a good international arbitration team should be on resolving commercial problems without recourse to the full, formal, arbitration procedure. Avoidance of the procedure demands in depth knowledge and understanding of how international arbitration works but also, arguably more importantly, an understanding of the key commercial drivers of each individual client. The experience and expertise gained by our lawyers globally can be harnessed and brought to focus wherever it is needed, no matter the process being adopted in any situation.

The diverse areas of law in which we practice internationally (including aviation commodities, construction, energy, finance, insurance, international sale of goods, shipping and telecoms) make us uniquely placed to help you avoid disputes wherever possible and to guide you successfully through those which are unavoidable.

We have experience of appearing before numerous arbitral bodies (including the ICC, LCIA, LMAA, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Zurich Chamber of Commerce, Dubai International Arbitration Centre as well as ad hoc arbitrations) and can guide you through the procedures to help you get the right result for your business. However, if we consider that your interests are best protected or advanced by bringing court or arbitral proceedings in a jurisdiction where we do not practice, we will work with you to ensure you get the best advice for those proceedings, whether we are involved directly or indirectly or not at all. In such situations were are able to co-ordinate foreign proceedings on your behalf, by instructing and liaising with other lawyers.

The majority of our partners have lived and worked in other jurisdictions and know first hand what it is to practice law in those countries. As well as advising and acting as advocates in international arbitration, many of our lawyers give evidence as expert witnesses and practice as arbitrators, giving them a different perspective on the dispute resolution process.

Our in-depth knowledge of various jurisdictions, particularly in the Middle East, has helped us to build an extensive track record in international arbitration.
