Human Rights

Unfortunately disputes occur in all businesses. When they do we can provide you with clear advice on where you stand and what remedies are available to you

Human rights issues commonly arise in many different legal contexts, both contentious and non-contentious. It is important that you can obtain practical advice from lawyers experienced in this ever-increasing area of law and with an understanding of your requirements.

We frequently advise clients from many sectors on all aspects of human rights law, both domestic (under the Human Rights Act 1998) and European. These include local authorities, affordable housing providers, charities, statutory regulators, private organisations and individuals.

We can offer our clients practical assistance in many ways. We have considerable experience of contentious proceedings involving human rights, with a strong track record in judicial review matters and leading domestic cases. We also have experience of making applications to the European Court of Human Rights.

However, we recognise that effective dispute avoidance is as important as dispute resolution in this area, as it is in any area of litigation. We regularly act in an advisory capacity for our clients, working with them to identify the potential human rights implications of a particular decision, act or policy, how best to approach those issues and to avoid subsequent disputes.
