Equality Act presents range of challenges for social housing providers to consider

The Equality Act brings together what were previously separate strands of legislation (e.g. the Race Relations Act and the Sex Discrimination Act).

Much of it came into force on 1 October 2010.

All the types of discrimination that were illegal prior to this Act are covered, including discrimination the basis of age, disability gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation (each of which is known as a protected characteristic).
