Salman is a partner in the Banking and Finance Group and heads the firm's Islamic finance practice in the Middle East and Africa. Salman also serves as the head of the Islamic securities practice.

Salman has over a decade of experience as a specialised Islamic finance lawyer. He is regularly cited as one of the preeminent practitioners in Islamic finance by, among others, The Legal 500. He was named an elite leading lawyer in the Islamic finance category of The Legal 500 (2015).

His Islamic finance and general finance practice is ranked Tier 1 and Band 1 by Legal500 (2015) and Chambers (2015), respectively.

As cited in Legal500 (2015), "Salman provides knowledge, accessibility and detailed responses to legal matters". "Salman has a particularly strong understanding of Sukuk structures".

His practice is diverse, with emphasis on representing issuers and financial institutions in connection with public and private offerings of securities (domestic and international), as well as representing various corporations and financial institutions on complex domestic and international Islamic finance matters.

Salman also has extensive product development experience across numerous jurisdictions advising clients on structural, legal and documentation issues in developing and updating, structuring and launching products.

Salman’s clients include Citigroup, Standard Chartered, Ahli United Bank, Bank Muscat (Meethaq) and other commercial and investment banks.
Selected Experience:

  • The Government of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Finance, on its debut Sukuk issuance of 250 million Omani Rial (USD 650 million)
  • The Tilal Development Company on Oman first ever Sukuk issuance 50 million Omani Rial (USD 130 million)
  • Standard Chartered Bank as sole structuring advisor and National Bank of Oman SAOG, Bank Sohar SAOG and Standard Chartered Bank as joint lead managers on a dual-currency subordinated perpetual issuance (USD 125million)
  • The sole underwriter on each of the last two issuances by Bahrain Commercial Facilities Company
  • The financiers on a first of a kind Islamic financing for the development of Four Seasons (USD100 million).

His leadership in Islamic finance has put him in the position to comment with significant impact on many important Islamic regulatory developments in the GCC.

He is also a frequent speaker and a significant contributor to several industry groups. He has authored many published articles on various Islamic finance topics. 

He is qualified as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and as a High Court advocate in Pakistan.
