Neill has extensive experience in banking and finance matters acting for a wide range of borrowers and lenders. This covers bilateral and syndicated lending as well as some capital markets transactions.
Neill has specialised in real estate finance and, in particular, Islamic finance. He has acted for financial institutions which are active in this area (including those with Islamic windows) as well as many of the borrowers in the Middle East and Asia seeking to access Shari'ah complaint debt for property and other investments in the United Kingdom and Europe. With a thorough knowledge of conventional debt and Islamic finance, he has structured many innovative complex cross border transactions often including leveraged property funds and which combine both types of finance to achieve the clients' aims and objectives.
Neill is an active member of TheCityUK's Islamic Finance Markets Advisory Group as well as attending the UK-Asean Business Council's meetings. This is a cross-sectoral senior practitioner body comprised of members of TheCityUK and key themes include infrastructure financing, Islamic finance and the development of capital markets. He has provided thought leadership on the direction of TheCityUK's policy on Islamic finance and activity and on the direction in which the sector would like United Kingdom governmental policy and activity to progress. This in turn has resulted in positive relations with senior decision-makers, regulators and economic and business stakeholders.
Neill is a regular speaker at Islamic finance conferences in the UK.
