Darren specialises in advising registered providers, public sector bodies, charities, social enterprises and other voluntary sector organisations.  He has particular expertise in establishing new entities, advising on governance issues and on group structure issues, including business restructuring, group mergers and the establishment of new groups.

Darren's recent experience includes advising a number of RPs on group consolidations, restructuring and mergers, including advising on the L&Q and East Thames merger.  Darren has also recently been advising charitable RPs on technical issues following regulatory changes, such as the impact of deregulation on the need to comply with charity law on property disposals, and the impact of s93 on the removal of local authority shareholder rights. 
Darren is a member of the Charity Law Association.

Some other examples of Darren's work include:

• Acting on numerous interim manager appointments made by the Charity Commission, including recently assuming responsibility for the governance of a humanitarian charity working in Syria as part of a regulatory enquiry into its operations.

• Advised Social Enterprise UK on the acquisition of shares from, and merger with, a regional social enterprise body.

• Acting for numerous academy trusts on the transfer of responsibility for academy schools from one provider to another.

• Advising benevolent charities on the applicability of Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 to their operations and whether the making of loans to their beneficiaries constitutes a regulated activity.

• Advising World Energy Council, a global energy forum comprised of members from 90 countries, on its overall governance structure and relationships with tis constituent members.

• Advising the Association of Masters in Business Administration, the international impartial authority on postgraduate business education which operates in over 70 countries, on central governance arrangements and operational matters.

• Advising a number of clients on rules applicable under EU Directives, including particularly on procurement and State Aid.

• Advising in relation to the proposed transfer of 600 public parks in  to ownership of the largest conservation charity in the UK.
