Helen Cookson has specialised in employment law for over 20 years, advising employers in both the public and private sectors. She has extensive experience in advising on all aspects of employment law and is an experienced employment tribunal advocate and seminar speaker, both at Trowers & Hamlins client seminars and external conferences.
Helen has particular experience in dealing with complex employment matters arising out of transfers of undertakings, large scale redundancies and restructures and mergers. She advises on the creation of new staffing structures, managing the departure of staff and guiding clients through the process of negotiating new standard terms and conditions with trade unions. Helen has led trade union negotiations on behalf of clients and has extensive experience of advising in relation to collective bargaining procedures. She also often works closely with boards and in-house legal teams on governance and procedural matters.
Helen also specialises in data protection with a particular focus on employee data issues and advises on subject access requests, privacy notices and data protection policies and breach notification as well as leading training on data issues. Helen also deals with complex tribunal matters, for example those involving discrimination, equal pay and whistleblowing, and is experienced in handling difficult grievances and disciplinary investigations.
