Tom Barton


Tom works exclusively on planning related matters including applications for development, compulsory purchase, highways, listed building and enforcement matters.

Tom advises both private and public sector clients including commercial developers, registered providers and local authorities. Tom has advised on the compulsory purchase of a large shopping centre in central Kingston, the s106 agreement arising from a 990 unit scheme in East London and appealed the refusal of planning permission for a new secondary school in Bromley. Tom has successfully defended a number of planning enforcement actions including complex and high value listed building enforcements.

Tom regularly advises inward investors, mainly from the Middle and Asia, on a range of issues faced by those wishing to purchase and develop land in the UK.

Tom is an Associate in Trowers & Hamlins' Commercial Property department. He is based in our London office. Tom trained with the firm and previously spent a six month seat working with the planning team prior to qualification. Tom spent time across the firm as a trainee including a seat with the Projects & Construction Team and on contentious matters in the Gulf.
