Trowers & Hamlins completes merger with Stones Solicitors

Trowers & Hamlins is pleased to confirm that its merger with Stones Solicitors, the Devon-based law firm, completed on 1 October 2015.

This merger is the latest development in a series of moves over the past four years that have seen Trowers & Hamlins bolster its regional presence across the UK to meet increasing client demand.  In 2011 the firm launched a new Birmingham office and more recently expanded capacity in that office.  In 2014 the firm took on more space to accommodate growth in Exeter, and in 2015 the firm's Manchester office moved to new, larger premises.

The merger between Trowers & Hamlins and Stones creates a combined firm of over 820 people with a turnover of approximately £85 million.  The firm continues to be known as Trowers & Hamlins, however, in Exeter only the firm will be known as Trowers & Hamlins incorporating Stones Solicitors, for two years post completion.

Following the merger, Trowers & Hamlins' regional offices now boast over 130 fee earners, as well as 31 partners, and provide real estate, construction, public sector/local government, dispute resolution, banking and finance, corporate, private wealth, employment, and travel services as part of the firm's national offering.

Jennie Gubbins, Trowers & Hamlins' senior partner, commented:  "This merger allows us to build on the successes of our existing Exeter offering.  It positions us to grow our regional presence and reputation in the South West region and to build on our existing real estate offering there, in particular helping us to broaden out from our social housing and public sector heritage.

"In addition, for the first time, we are able to offer corporate and private wealth expertise from a regional base, giving us the opportunity to expand our regional non-public sector practice and better service our clients.  We were fortunate to find in Stones like-minded people with the ambition and desire to grow a business that enables us to provide the best possible service and legal expertise to our clients."
