Trowers & Hamlins helps Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead deliver long-term treatment solution

Trowers & Hamlins helps Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead deliver long-term treatment solution for residual waste

Trowers & Hamlins is delighted to announce the completion on 12 November 2015 of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead's procurement of a residual waste treatment partner.  The firm advised the Council on the procurement process and finalisation of the contract documentation with Viridor, securing long-term treatment capacity at Viridor's state-of-the-art, energy-from-waste facility in Ardley, north Oxfordshire.  Operational services commenced on 26 November 2015.

The public-private partnership involves the thermal treatment of the Royal Borough's residual waste stream, diverting approximately 35,000 tonnes per annum from landfill and generating electricity for the national grid.

The new contract will complement the Council's existing arrangements for treatment of organic waste delivering a complete waste treatment solution for the Royal Borough.  The project has been completed in record time with the Council's first waste deliveries taking place less than nine months from the initial OJEU notice.

James Hawkins, Head of Trowers & Hamlins' Public Sector Commercial department and lead partner on the deal, commented:  "We are delighted to have worked with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to deliver a sustainable and long-term solution for its municipal waste streams which will see over 90% of its residual waste diverted from landfill."

Trowers & Hamlins has considerable experience of waste and energy projects.  Most recently, in September 2015, the firm achieved financial close for the Isle of Wight integrated waste collection and treatment project on behalf of long-standing client Amey.
