Trowers & Hamlins advises Jordan’s NEPCO on procurement of further tranche of LNG

Trowers & Hamlins advises Jordan’s NEPCO on procurement of further tranche of LNG

Trowers & Hamlins, in conjunction with Navigant, Tractebel and Mapstone, is pleased to have advised Jordan's National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) on the procurement of a further tranche of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Jordan's LNG import terminal.

The contract was awarded recently to Royal Dutch Shell and will have a term of two years.  The cargoes are likely to have a value of around US$1 billion and deliveries will commence in early 2016.

Trowers & Hamlins has been assisting NEPCO and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in relation to Jordan's LNG project since early 2012, and this successful tender follows on from the advice which the firm gave on the FSRU time charter, the construction and operation of the terminal and gas transportation issues.

Tom Wigley, International Energy and Natural Resources partner at Trowers & Hamlins, commented:  "This LNG supply tender is the fifth such tender we have advised on for NEPCO and represents a key element of Jordan's strategy to strengthen its energy security and lower fuel costs.  We are delighted to have advised on this latest tender."

This newest supply contract follows on from a sale and purchase agreement signed between NEPCO and Royal Dutch Shell in January 2015.  That agreement, on which Trowers & Hamlins also advised, guaranteed 150 million cubic feet of LNG a day for five years.

Trowers & Hamlins has a long-standing relationship with the Government of Jordan.  In addition to advising NEPCO on its LNG strategy, the firm is sole legal adviser to NEPCO on its oil shale IPP and has advised on all of Jordan's oil shale developments since 2009 when the kingdom signed its first-ever oil shale concession agreement.
