Trowers & Hamlins adds contentious construction expert to Birmingham office

Trowers & Hamlins is pleased to announce that construction litigation partner Vijay Bange is joining the Birmingham office from October 2014.

Vijay will be leading the regional construction litigation practice from the Birmingham base.  His move strengthens the Dispute Resolution and Litigation department's overall national presence and bolsters the contentious construction capabilities of the firm's existing Projects and Construction team in the West Midlands.

Previously based in the firm's London office, Vijay is a contentious construction expert with experience dealing with disputes of varying sizes and complexity, both in arbitration proceedings and in the Technology and Construction Court (TCC).  He undertakes advisory, dispute avoidance and contractual interpretation work, and his expertise extends to all forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes to include mediation and expert determination.  Vijay has experience advising on large international infrastructure projects, including airport, road, harbour and wind farm schemes.

Jennie Gubbins, Trowers & Hamlins' senior partner, commented:  "We are delighted to be further expanding and adding additional capabilities to the Birmingham office this year.  There is a great buzz about the place – since opening there in 2011, we have grown the overall number of staff by 308% and we have launched a document production centre to serve all of our UK offices.

"As part of our strategy to develop strong national practice areas, we are increasingly relying on the cooperation of national teams across our UK offices to meet the needs of our clients.  To this end, Vijay's move strengthens our national litigation group, which encompasses commercial, construction and property know-how."

Vijay is the third partner to relocate to Trowers & Hamlins' West Midlands base since April.  Earlier this year, the firm expanded the number of solicitors in its Birmingham office by 23 per cent.  The firm established a dedicated Public Sector Commercial team in the Midlands comprised of partner Amardeep Gill and solicitor Louis Sebastian, and strengthened its national Projects and Construction practice with the addition of partner Andrew Vickery.
