Trowers & Hamlins has advised on the latest phase of the financing behind the high end re-development of the renowned Balfron Tower in Poplar.

This unique grade II-listed structure, built in the 1960s in the brutalist style and designed by celebrated British-Hungarian architect, Ernö Goldfinger, is being entirely refurbished to create 146 residential units with unique views from the Thames Estuary to Hampstead Heath.

The design-lead refurbishment is being undertaken by Londonewcastle, Telford Homes and Poplar Harca Housing, forming part of the wider £300 million+ Chrisp Street Market regeneration plan.

Eddie O'Hanrahan, who lead the Trowers & Hamlins team with assistance from Jon Grosvenor and James Ioannou, commented:

"To me, the rebirth of Balfron Tower epitomises the story of London’s real estate over the last 50 years. From aspirational council estate in the 1960s to a more troubled crime spot in the 1990s through to a reimagined space in 2020 reflecting how we live. It stands as an architectural icon in the capital. It is great to see it being reinvigorated through the conservation work undertaken by Londonewcastle, Telford Homes and Poplar Harca."
