Sophie Emerson-McIntee

Third seat trainee

My path to law wasn't a straight one. I graduated in a non-law degree and studied for a Masters before legal work experience led me to study for a law degree. I then built a career in advertising in the US before returning to the UK and looking for a legal training contract. I knew i wanted to be based in the South West but benefit from an international law firm experience. Trowers was top of my list.

In every seat so far I've worked on large projects alongside the London office and been involved with truly international work. It's clear that training in the Exeter office isn't just about Exeter clients - it's about collaborating across all of our offices nationally and internationally.

Diversity is one of the reasons I chose the firm - knowing that over 50% of the firm's fee earners are female was important to me. There's a real commitment here to include everyone and we're recognised as a leader in this area. There are also so many activities to get involved in, both inside the firm and through our work in local communities.
