Local authorities and charities

The leading local government practice, acting for over 200 local authorities across the UK.

We have extensive experience of advising and assisting local authorities in the establishment of, and their relationships with charities, community interest companies and other community based organisations, including the establishment and operation of leisure trusts, theatre trusts and community charities; relationships with schools; the transfer of community assets; and the ongoing operation of well established charities where the authority is trustee.

We also have extensive experience in advising charities and other not-for-profit organisations on their relationships with the local authority.  In addition we advise on corporate vehicles and joint ventures, setting up local housing companies and structuring new build projects (offices with charitable subsidiaries).

This is in addition to our experience of establishing special purpose vehicles for local authorities to participate in trading, strategic services partnerships, PFI/PPP activities and stock transfers and also as ALMOs.
