Corporate governance
Corporate governance is an important and constantly changing area for local authorities. We have extensive experience of advising those in local government. The advice which our team provides is informed by the hands on experience of many of them as former in-house lawyers for local authorities. This in-depth knowledge helps us to advise our clients based on a thorough working knowledge of the legislative and regulatory environment in which they must operate and gives us a valuable insight into the public sector ethos which underlies the discharge of their functions.
We have experience in advising on the legality of decisions in relation to the members' Code of Conduct, conflicts of interest and corporate governance issues. We have been involved in drafting local authority constitutions, schemes of delegation, standing orders and local codes of conduct and protocols. We also have extensive experience of creating new entities for local authorities, such as trading companies, ALMOs and leisure trusts.
