Waste and wastewater
The Middle East is facing a series of significant challenges relating to the treatment of wastewater and the disposal of municipal and industrial waste. In recent years, the region has seen a number of innovative schemes being implemented.
Drawing on our Middle East and United Kingdom expertise, we are able to advise host governments and project sponsors on the development of waste and wastewater infrastructure. We have advised on traditional procurement, on out-sourcings and on public-private partnerships (PPP).
In the waste sector, we have advised on commercial arrangements relating to the contracting out of collection, disposal and recycling of residential, commercial and industrial waste. In the wastewater sector, we have acted on the negotiation of PPPs relating to the construction, operation, maintenance and financing of sewerage facilities. Our clients comprise government-entities, international developers, contractors, specialist operators and consultants.
We are very familiar with advising on the legal, regulatory and environmental frameworks surrounding such projects, including as to concession terms and licensing. Our utilities infrastructure team also advises on power and water projects and has expertise in project finance.
