Industry and mining
As the governments of the Middle East seek to broaden their economies away from a focus on oil and gas, many are aiming to facilitate the development of large-scale industrial and mining projects. Examples have been launched in Abu Dhabi, Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Often these projects are related to the launching of a special industrial zone.
Our energy and infrastructure team is familiar with advising on all aspects of the successful creation and development of projects in this sector. In recent years, we have acted for host governments and project sponsors on the development of aluminium and magnesium smelters, cement and chemical plants, and mining concessions.
We are experienced in advising on legal issues relating to exploration licences, the securing of feedstock and utilities, and customer off-take agreements. We also act on the development of infrastructure required to support industrial and mining schemes, such as power and water facilities and ports.
Our work includes advising on the environmental and free zone laws which may be relevant to the establishment of mining and industrial projects, and we offer additional expertise in construction and project finance law.
