Paul McDermott
Paul is a Partner in our Public Sector Commercial Department and advises both public and private sector clients on outsourcing, shared services, regeneration, care, joint ventures, major accommodation and infrastructure projects and the legal aspects of local authority investment and finance.
Paul's 16 years of experience in the sector encompasses working in-house for Islington and Camden councils where he first developed his specialisms in public procurement, state aid, local authority charging and trading, governance and vires. Since 2008 he has applied this experience to advising local authorities on the innovative use of powers and investment to increase revenue and enable public intervention. This has included the public rescue of 2 retail developments and a number of joint ventures.
Paul is acknowledged as a legal expert and a leader in the field of Local Government and PFI in the Legal Experts Directory 2012 and by Chambers and Partners' Guide to the Legal Profession 2013 in the field of PFI. Paul has applied this expertise to undertaking reviews of services and PPP/PFI contracts to assist clients to maximise efficiencies and reduce expenditure.
Paul is author of the Lexis Nexis PFI and local authority trading practitioner guides. He recently presented to the CIPFA national conference on innovative uses of law for income generation and savings.
