Trowers & Hamlins wins prestigious Dragon Award for Economic Regeneration
Trowers & Hamlins, the City and international law firm, has won the prestigious Economic Regeneration Award at the Dragon Awards 2007 - The Lord Mayor's Awards for Corporate Community Involvement in London.
Trowers & Hamlins beat off competition from MITIE Group plc and a consortium made up of Reuters, Allen & Overy, Deutsche Bank, FSA, Linklaters and London City Airport to win the award for work done with East Potential on their Routes to Work Scheme.
The scheme run by East Potential, a charity working from East London, provides accommodation, training and employment opportunities for local residents.
Trowers & Hamlins have worked with East Potential since 2004, offering twelve two week placements each year providing a broad range of office experience, encouraging responsibility and a sense of value. Every attendee is allocated a mentor and given an appraisal at the end of the placement to provide constructive feedback and advice for the future. Over the last three years Trowers & Hamlins have given 17 permanent jobs to individuals introduced to the firm by East Potential over the last couple of years.
Jonathan Adlington, Senior Partner, said "We are delighted to have won this award for us – many members of staff get involved in this scheme and it is proof of their commitment to the local community. We are even more delighted to have won this award for East Potential – we hope that this encourages other local organisations to become more involved with the scheme in the future"
Kate Chester of East Potential said: "We are delighted that Trowers & Hamlins have been recognised for their work on the Routes to Work programme. Up to now, 47 local people have been supported into work experience with Trowers & Hamlins, 17 of whom have been given full time work there. This is really giving our learners excellent opportunities for a career in a corporate industry. We are proud of our partnership with Trowers & Hamlins."
The award was handed out on 10 October by the Lord Mayor of the City of London John Stuttard who said: “The Dragon Awards are an important way to reward those who are working hard to give back to their local communities and to set the standard in neighbourliness for all enlightened Greater London businesses.”
Trowers & Hamlins were also shortlisted and commended for their work with East Potential at this year’s Lawyer Awards.
