Karen Andrews, a Partner at Nabarro, is to join the highly rated Public Sector Commercial team at Trowers & Hamlins, the International law firm
Trowers & Hamlins is currently rated the number one law firm for public sector work by the Chambers UK Guide and the Legal 500 directory, the two most respected independent guides to the legal profession.
Karen joins Trowers & Hamlins’ expanding Manchester office. In 2006 Karen was one of only two private practice lawyers selected as one of the ‘Hot 100’ by The Lawyer magazine for their public sector work. The other was Helen Randall, now a fellow partner at Trowers & Hamlins!
Karen has developed a niche role as a 'trouble-shooter', dealing with the property aspects of complex public sector and corporate projects. At Trowers & Hamlins Karen will be working in a nationwide capacity, joining Malcolm IIey, Helen Randall, Paul McDermott and James Hawkins on a range of education projects, PPPs and local authority joint ventures.
This recruitment follows hot on the heels of appointments by Wolverhampton City Council, where Trowers & Hamlins are advising on its £300 million Building Schools for the Future scheme, providing modern facilities to all secondary school children in Wolverhampton and establishing new academies in the area. The firm is also advising on a similar project with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
Jonathan Adlington, Senior Partner, Trowers & Hamlins comments: “We are very pleased to welcome Karen’s appointment. She will play a valuable role in the expansion of our public sector practice. Bringing talented lawyers like Karen to Trowers & Hamlins is part of delivering on our commitment to remain the law firm of choice for public sector clients.”
Other public sector commercial deals Trowers & Hamlins have recently completed include:
• Oldham Council- Advising the Council on a £1.2 billion partnership (Strategic Service Delivery Partnership) for the provision of a range of corporate and core transactional services including customer services, human resources, revenues and benefits, property services and highways maintenance. The partnership will also assist in regeneration activities in the borough.
• Sheffield City Council – Advising the Council on its award winning £270 million strategic partnership with Kier for the provision of construction and building services. The project involved the creation of the first ever limited liability partnership joint venture vehicle between a Council and a private sector partner. The project was a winner of the PPP project of the year award at the Local Government Awards. Sheffield City Council has recently been awarded Beacon status as a result of the implementation of this project.
• Stoke on Trent City Council – Advising the Council on the setting up of a £400m strategic partnership/joint venture company for the delivery of the Council’s building and housing repairs and maintenance function.
Trowers & Hamlins has just been ranked 52nd by the Sunday Times in its prestigious Top 100 ‘Best Companies to Work For 2008’.
Vault.com, the world-leading employer information resource, has ranks Trowers & Hamlins number one among UK law firms on its Quality of Life index based on marks awarded by employees.
