Trowers & Hamlins advises on UK's first joint public and university library

Trowers & Hamlins acted on behalf of the Partners, who are Worcestershire County Council and Worcester University.

The library will also include a local history centre and archive, which the authorities hope will promote tourism in Worcester.

Trowers & Hamlins says that this flagship project underlines the trend for public organisations to increasingly turn to shared service initiatives as they come under pressure to achieve higher service levels on tighter budgets.

The Trowers & Hamlins team was led by Helen Randall assisted by Francesca Mohan. Worcester is the third library PFI project that Helen Randall has advised on, after Bournemouth and Brighton.

Comments Helen Randall, head of Trowers & Hamlins' Public Sector Commercial Department: "This is a landmark project for Worcester and the first of its kind in public service delivery. We are delighted to see that despite the tough economic climate, innovative and groundbreaking PFI deals can still be closed."

The building will be rated BREEAM Excellent.

Galliford Try, the developer and PFI partner, was advised by Shadbolts. Funding was provided by Nationwide, who was advised by Nabarro.
